This essay is a hyper-narrative.
It is compatible with the following browsers when viewed on a PC;
IE4+ (best viewed in IE6),
Netscape 6.2+
Opera 6+.
(Sorry, I haven't had a chance to test this on a Mac).
And is best viewed at a minimum screen resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels with the browser maximised.
The main content pages will open in this I-frame.
(Unless of course you are using older versions of the above browsers).
Some explanations and links to pages on the Web will open in pop-up windows. It is important to understand the terminology used by some of the authors cited in this hyper-essay.
Some links to reference sites on the Web will open in a new window.
For some, this may be annoying, but please turn off your pop-up blockers as
it is necessary if the reader is to remain with the main narrative. Additionally
of course, it further highlights a navigation problem that is an inherent
part of any hypertext.
Footnote references '[1]' are links to the particular note and the 'back' link next to the footnote will take you directly back up to the text.
You can read this hyper-narrative:
This hyper-narrative links to pages on the World Wide Web so a live connection to the Internet is desirable. (Especially if you happen to be reading this from a CD-Rom).
Internal links (to pages contained on this site) look like this.
External links (to other sites on the Web) look like this.
The essay is complimented by a useful page of links to important hypernarratives and hypertextual resources. (After all, what would a hyper-essay be without a page of links?)
